2009: Science and the media collide in the most horrific way imaginable; with Darwinius masillae, a beautifully preserved prehistoric primate being trumped up as the answer to human origins and generally claimed to be the best thing since sliced bread. It is not and the whole affair is generally embarassing for all involved.

2011: Science and me collide in the most horrific way imaginable; with an evo-devo paper on primate limbs. Then, amidst the confusing concepts I see something I didn’t expect.

A reference to that much maligned find from 2009. The fact Darwinius masillae was turned into a media circus hasn’t changed a thing. Science still marched forwards, took what was useful from the find and then cited it two years later.

It’s proof science works and that puts a smile on my face.
